We invite you to take part in a scientific Seminar in memory of B.L.Kascheyev
A scientific Seminar «Meteoric researches: scientific and applied aspects», devoted to the
90th anniversary from the date of the birth of a known Ukrainian scientist, a well-known researcher
of meteors by a radar-tracking method and the outstanding organizer of these researches of the
second half ХХ of century, the founder of the Kharkov school of thought of a meteoric
radar-location and Balakleya experimental meteoric observant base (in the Kharkov region) professor
KhNURE B.L.Kascheev (1920-2004) will take place on March, 12th, 2010 at the Kharkov National
University of Radioelectronics (KhNURE) in Kharkov, Ukraine (to the address: pr-kt Lenin, 14
Kharkov 61166 Ukraine).
The seminar is conducted by the Kharkov National University of Radioelectronics together
with the Ministry of Education and Science, the Academy of Sciences of Applied Radioelectronics of
Ukraine, Russia and Belarus (AS ARE), Radio-Astronomical Institute NAS of Ukraine, the Ukrainian
Astronomical Association, Scientific Research Institute of Astronomy of the Kharkov National
V.N.Karazin University.

B.L.Kascheyev (8.03.1920-15.01.2004) - a known Ukrainian scientist and
organizer of science, whose name is inseparable from the largest international geophysical projects
of second half of XX-th century and is connected as with the registration in 1954 of the first
radio meteor in Kharkov, Ukraine and with the formation of a new powerful layer of knowledge of
meteors, atmospheric dynamics, meteoric communication, time and frequency metrology in the former
Soviet Union and Ukraine thanks to introduction and development of radar-tracking methods of the
meteoric phenomena research in the Earth atmosphere.
In professor B.L.Kascheyev’s arsenal and scientific personnel headed by him we can point out
the following issues: carrying out the world best radar-tracking supervision of meteors according
to the program the International Geophysical Year 1957, Meteoric Equatorial Expedition to Somalia
(1968-1970), the development of the most sensitive at that time, completely automated multipurpose
radar-tracking system investigation of meteors in geophysical, astronomical and applied aspects in
Kharkov, Ukraine in 1972, carrying out continuous measurements in 1972-1978 with registration of
the greatest number of sporadic meteoric bodies orbits (250 thousand orbits) on the system,
organisation and conducting the international meteoric program GLOBMET (Global system of meteoric
supervision) in the 80s of the last century, creation of one of the world's largest electronic
databank of meteoric orbits according to the results of observation in 1972-1978 and many other
things
Three asteroids were named after "Kashcheev", «KhTURE », and "Voloshchuk" by the
Astronomical Union for the grate results of B.L.Kascheyev scientific meteoric radar-location
school.
